There are many ways to organize a treasure hunt for kids at the next party from the ages of 2 on up. For some ideas, have a look below:
If you can get sets of plastic Easter eggs and place the clues on bright colored paper ~ for the small ones place pictures on the clues and they have to find that picture to find their next clue. For the older kids, write riddles that lead them to different spots to find the next clue. A general rule of thumb is that you should have as many clues as the age of the child…so if 7 years old, 7 clues, etc.
As examples, for a picture clue, put a picture of a bath tub, and the kids will find the bath tub and then the next clue. For a riddle at an outdoor farm, “I am where the needle can never be found!” (I.E. a haystack)
The last clue should lead to the treasure…this could be party goody bags, candy, a movie pass, a lemonade, popcorn balls, bouncy balls, jar of bubbles, etc.
Another idea for older kids is use a single type of paper to cut out letters that you hide…the kids must find the letters and then spell out the place where they will find the treasure, i.e “ICE CHEST.”
Write up a list of common objects and have them find each and every item. If many kids are attending, split them into teams to find all of the items. When they have the list completed, they receive their treasure.
For little kids, hide 100 chocolate coins or pennies and have them search them out.
