When kids become a bit older they may not enjoy the old stand-by party games and parents may need to offer up something a bit more sophisticated. If so, for an ice breaker game to get the party and conversation rolling, sit them in a circle and have a big bowl of questions available. Each kid takes the bowl, picks a question, and must answer it. Then, if others want to chime in with their answers that is fine. Pass the bowl to the next person and continue the Q&A. They will learn about one another and enjoy speaking their thoughts and opinions! Continue the game until you want to move on to your next activity.
You can pose any questions that you want, and here are some examples:
- What was the best birthday you ever celebrated?
- What is your favorite book and why?
- If you could have dinner with anyone in the entire world, who would you invite?
- If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
- What is the best day of your entire life…so far?
- What is your favorite day of the week?
- What is your favorite animal?
- Describe your perfect day.
- What is your most favorite food? Least Favorite food?
You can also theme these questions to match your party theme, i.e. an animal themed party. Make all of the questions around animals, i.e.:
- Do you have a pet at home?
- What is your favorite animal? Why?
- Where would you like to travel to see an exotic animal, i.e. Australia to see the Koala Bears.
- What TV programs do you watch that include animals.
This will definitely get the creative juices flowing, the conversation happening, and everyone will learn something new!
