If you have twins or other multiples, then planning a birthday party is double the fun, yet also requires some extra care and planning. When it comes to planning you either can choose one theme that your twins both enjoy and agree upon, or plan two mini-parties within a larger party.

When your kids are very small, such as turning one or two, your kids will not know the difference and will not be asking for a particular theme. In this case, you may want to pick a more general theme that will include both kids, such as colors, polka dot, alphabet, and the Number One. Check out this list of first birthday party themes! You can easily plan a party for your twins under these umbrella themes.

There will be several years where you can still combine the theme. For example, if your kids love Nemo, then you could have a Nemo themed party and if you have boy/girl twins, there could be an emphasis on Nemo and Dori. If they are into Sesame Street, then an Elmo and Abby Cadabby party would also work well. Other twin party character themes that will work well with a twin girl/boy is Raggedy Ann and Andy, Dora and Diego, and Lilo and Stitch. Again, it is one theme with two set characters within.

Now, as the twins become school-aged they will begin to like certain characters, enjoy certain books, and play different sports and activities; therefore, they may actually request what type of party theme they want and you may find yourself planning two separate parties within one.

The general guidelines for holding a joint party apply to twin parties as well.
