An alternative idea to party gifts for the birthday kid…
A good friend recently suggested to me an alternative to grand gifts for the party kid. Instead of bringing a present, why not make a donation in the birthday kid’s name to a non-profit organization that needs help? It could be to a homeless shelter, an outreach community program, etc. Maybe there is a community initiative on to build a park … donations could be made to this worthy cause.
Birthday kids receive so many beautiful gifts each and every year. By trying this alternative idea of making a donation in your child’s name to an important cause or organization, teaches a valuable lesson early on about philanthropy.
If you like this idea, you can always make a note on the invitations to the party guests regarding your idea. I think it might really catch on, to the benefit of all.
When I got married, my husband and I made a donation to a Scotty Dog Rescue League in each of our guest’s names. At the reception, everyone walked away with a marvelous Scotty cookie with a little tag stating that a donation had been made in their name to this organization. Parties and celebrations are a perfect way to help out a cause.
Kids’ birthday parties are really a great venue for teaching the lesson of philanthropy.
