So are two invitations in one envelope tacky? As an example, a parent may be planning her son’s christening and first birthday party on the same day due to most of the family being out of town.
I don’t find this tacky in the least for a couple of reasons:
1. The two separate events are for the same child. Thus, the same envelope makes sense.
2. Holding two consecutive different events, such as a christening and a birthday party ~ both events deserve to have their own invite. Thus, two different invitations makes the most sense.
I would make a couple of suggestions when you put the two invitations in the same envelope. Make sure your guests open the first event’s invitation first. This way the guests will know when the day’s events begin. Also, on that first invitation you can make it clear that the next event, such as the birthday party, will follow. Use simple language like, “Birthday Party for Zach Immediately Following the Christening. Please see next envelope.” It clearly leads your guests to the next envelope.
Some of your guests may only choose to attend one of the two events and so having the two separae invitations in the envelope helps people to be clear in their RSVP to you that they will attend one of the events or both. That will help you plan as well.
Given this situatuon, I think you really can’t go wrong with two invitations in the same envelope!
