Here’s a question I recently received from a visitor and I think it is quite unique:
“My daughter’s first birthday is coming up and I wanted to give umbrellas as favors. Can you think of a theme to tie in with the umbrellas?”
Umbrella favors are so incredibly unique and will really stand-out with your guests. Of course, when I think of umbrellas, I think of rain, and there are several concepts that come to my mind that are bright and cheerful.
1. Mary Poppins came to her nanny role via an umbrella. Doing a theme around Mary Poppins and bringing that to life for your guests would be special. When guests depart, they can take their very own umbrella home with them.
2. Umbrellas mean protection from the rain…and when the sun peaks out with the end of the rain, the natural elements combine to make a rainbow. You could do a Rainbow Themed party. A fun activity would be to take bright solid-colored umbrellas and have the kids draw rainbows on their umbrellas with permanent markers to personalize it to the theme.
3. Have you seen the children’s book The English Roses by Madonna? The front cover is very whimsical with girls walking in the English rain with their friends under brightly striped umbrellas. You could look at this book, and base your party theme on a garden theme, such as roses, etc.
4. Umbrellas are often used is at the beach to protect from the sun. A beach-themed party or a general outdoors party that uses umbrellas for this purpose would work well and there are many beach activities that fit the theme.
