It seems these days from the kid’s first birthday to Sweet 16 and beyond, kids’ parties are a really big deal and each year, especially during the primary school years, the numbers at these parties become larger and larger. This is a result of school policies that request that parents must invite the entire class. If that’s the case, and then you add on friends from outside of school. i.e. from extracurricular activities, and family friends as well…numbers can get out of control to be sure! Often, as a result, the budget also grows.
Well, big parties don’t ever really stop…but one way to save money and combat huge parties year in and out…shake up the routine and do something different. If you had a big party for your 6 year old, who has just begun school and wanted the entire class and everyone else to attend a big celebration, then for the BIG 7, why not choose 1-2 very good friends and have your kid do something very special with them. This limits the numbers, is easier on your budget, and shakes up the big party routine. Target certain birthdays for the traditional party, and also choose years for alternative fun.
Limiting the number of guests is also a great idea, but harder to implement these days with the “whole class” policy, but inviting only girls or only boys may also prove helpful in limiting numbers as well. If the whole class is invited, then you may not be able to include others outside of the class. Perhaps this works for some years, and other years, invite the friends from other activities or from outside of school. This is another way to limit numbers and also mix it up a bit as well.
This is the day and age of big kids’ parties, but finding creative ways to limit your numbers will not only ease your budget, but mix up the fun year in and out!
