Disney’s hit show The Wizards of Waverly Place features the Russo family, a seemingly typical family, except the three kids are wizards in training! The cast of kids includes: Alex (Selena Gomez), older brother Justin (David Henrie), and younger brother Max (Jake T.Austin). Although wizards in training, they aren’t allowed to practice or do their magic unsupervised! Although often Alex does just that! This would make an awesome birthday party or Halloween party during the upcoming season given it’s all about spells, magic, and wizardry. Of course, your child’s party will be supervised, so let the wizard magic begins!
For your party invitation, hand-deliver a cool thematic party invitation with some magic embedded. Purchase inexpensive magic wands. Attach a small pouch to one end filled with star confetti and a card with your “Wizard” party details on it. Request that the kids bring their wands with them for the party.
For your party decorations:
1. Hang a sign on the front entrance to your party welcoming your guests to Waverly Place.
2. Hang stars from the ceiling.
3. Use purple, black, and silver as thematic colors for your balloons, streamers, and party ware.
4. Utilize Halloween decorations to add a magical, wicked atmosphere with stuff you have on hand from past holidays…unless thisis a Halloween party. In this case, the decor is all about Halloween!
5. Provide wizard hats along with the wands for the kids to wear during the party.
6. Play the music from the show that was recently released during the party.
7. Selena Gomez and her co-stars are becoming huge hits for the tween crowd. Pick up some Teen Beat and other teen magazines and hang posters up of these characters on the party walls.
8. Set up one area of your party to be a magic classroom where the kids can do spells themselves.
For your party activities:
This is a party all about magic, right? When your guests arrive they are now considered the Wizards of Waverly and must attend Magic School and train.
With wands in hand and witch hats atop their heads, let them create some of their own magic spells.
1. First create a Love Potion to end all of their worries with boys. Provide small glass bottles with cork caps, and the girls can brew up a love potion made of essential oils, bubble bath, dried flowers, and any other essentials. The group can create a love potion together or paired off. If the kids create their potions as pairs, have everyone smell each other’s before bottling. This is a great party favor to take home.
2. Fruit or Cupcakes? Everyone knows that Justin prefers sweets over healthy nutrition. Instead of waiting for dessert, create it quick. Have the kids decorate a batch of cupcakes and have the supervisor place them under witch hats mix and matched with fruit. Who can guess which one is which correctly? Make sure to mix them up!
3. With the new music just released, certainly you could have a Karaoke machine on hand for the kids to sing the music.
4. Host a Wizards of Waverly trivia contest. When the guests enter the party, place trivia question on each child’s back. During the party, everyone can read the question and provide the answer (only) to the person…who must then guess what the trivia question is.
5. Magic is off-limits…whoever says the word must give up their hat. Whoever wears their hat the longest, wins!
6. Cast the McReary TimeReary spell and rewind time. In the middle of the party, cast the spell and start all over again, that’s right do what’s been done thus far, but move it backwards. When the birthday child says the words, time moves backwards.
7. Remember when the Pocket Elf bites Alex and she has a chocolate craving. Host your own chocolate-crave contest. Hide mini chocolates and have the kids find as many chocolates as they can in a two minute time frame and eat the chocolates fast…although remember for the kids to be safe too!
8. Alex at one points casts a spell for her parents to obey everything she says. Turn the tables on your own party and have the adult hosts take orders from the wizards…within reason. This should be funny!
For your party menu:
Serve delicious sub sandwiches, just like the one Max creates to win the best New York Mets sandwich. Max doesn’t remember what he made it with, so use your own secret, favorite ingredients.
Serve PB&J with the following spell: Satisfy my empty belly, make me a peanut butter and jelly
Make chocolate covered pretzel sticks dipped in small star candies.
Serve Bugle horns which look just like witch hats.
Make Cookie Wands as a special dessert.
For your party favor:
Instead of serving your cookie wands, send them home with the kids as a sweet treat along with their love potions too!
Have a wizardly great time!
Say It!

have all the guests come with their own wand (that they created on their own.) then have a contest on who has the most original wand, most crafty, & most colorfull. this will also work with spells.
I’m doing this party for my girls. I’m trying to find that fizzy stuff they had at Denny’s that the kids put in there drink to make it change color and fizz. That way the kids will have a drinkable potion. We’re also going to make necklaces or t-shirts I haven’t decided yet.
This might be the fizzy drink that your looking for:
