The X-Men are among the most diverse group of superheroes in the Marvel Comic collection. With powers ranging from shapeshifting to telepathy to laser vision, every kid can find a favorite X-Man (or woman) to identify with, making them a fantastic choice for a superhero sleepover themed party.
Read on for tips on throwing this party from Celebrations.com’s Yelena Johnson.
X-Men Themed Dessert
Create a clever X-Men themed dessert for the party in one of the following ways:
1. Bake an X shaped cake and frost it to look like the X-Men logo.
2. Bake a regular cake and use a toy Wolverine claw (washed thoroughly, of course) to rake his signature claw marks into the cake. Insert the toy firmly into the cake at the end of the claw marks.
3. Bake a batch of cupcakes and arrange them in the center of the table to look like the X-Men logo.
4. Bake batches of X-shaped cookies with an X cookie cutter, and frost them silver.
The X-Men cookies and cupcakes are a much simpler feat to tackle than the X-Men cake. One tip to make baking the cake easier is to to bake the cake in a long rectangular pan and to slice it into four long rows.
Then, carefully remove the rows from the pan and rearrange them once they are on a large platter into the shape of an X. Finish the cake off with frosting, and no one will know the cake wasn’t baked in the shape of an X to begin with.
X-Men Themed Party Decorations
Incorporate the Action Figures
Since the X-Men live in a regular world, there is not too much elaborate decorating involved with this theme party. However, placing all of the X-Men action figures out on the food table as centerpieces is a great way to make meal time more festive.
Create Comic Book Candles
You can also incorporate more comic book pages as decor for the sleepover party. Make color copies of the pages and use them as placemats, or wrap tall glasses with the printed out comic page and place a small votive inside to illuminate the scenes from the page.
X-Men Movie Posters & Pictures
Finally, put up X-Men movie posters on the walls of the party area. Find scenes from the movie on IMDB to print out and frame the pictures to bring the X-Men characters to the dinner table.
X-Men Party Invitation
Get creative and make your own comic book style X-Men party invitations.
Supplies:
* X-Men Comic Book Page & Cover
* Adobe Photoshop OR Photo Editing Software OR Microsoft Power Point
* Color Printer & Scanner
* Thick white cardstock to print invitations on
Steps:
1. Scan the image of an X-Men comic book page and cover into your computer.
2. Using photo editing software, remove the dialogue from the speech bubbles on the comic book page and cover.
3. Re-write your own script for the characters, discussing the upcoming party and the details. Don’t forget to include the time, place, address, and instructions to arrive dressed as a favorite X-Men character.
4. Print the party invitations out on two sides of the thick white cardstock. Make sure to wait until the cover side is completely dry before running the page through again for the party invitation details.
X-Men Sleepover Activities
X-Men Laser Tag
Make sure kids come to the party dressed as their favorite X-Men character. Then, rent a laser tag location for an hour and allow them to re-enact their favorite X-Men battles in full force.
X-Men Video Game Tournament
Follow up a rousing game of laser tag and dinner with an X-Men video game tournament. If you don’t have an X-Men video game yet, try X-Men: The Official Game. It came out in 2006 in tandem with the first movie and can be purchased for PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox, Xbox 360, DS and PC.
X-Men Movie Marathon
To wind the party down around bedtime, pop in the X-Men movies in sequence:
* X-Men
* X2
* X-Men: The Last Stand
* X-Men Origins: Wolverine
