OK, even I am stunned that I am beginning to think about Christmas already, but the question has been posed “What are some themes that would go along well for a small child’s party in December and be in the holiday spirit?”

When I think of kids’ party themes in December, I immediately think of my favorite Xmas TV specials…often they combine classic characters and Christmas tales and can be turned into a party theme as well.

Some ideas for just such a party:

  1. Classic Peanuts Show. The little Charlie Brown Xmas Tree, the singing of carols around the doghouse, the Christmas pageant. All of the scenes in the show can be turned into party activiities. Also, a great favor would be the Christmas music CD. Parents would love it as well.
  2. Take a classic character such as Rudolph and watch his TV special. Oh, the kids would have fun with this classic tale. They could make toys in the elves’ toy shop, play reindeer games, try and help the misfit toys. A goody may be a blinking red nose.
  3. Any favorite character of your kids’ can be turned into a Christmas-themed party by incorporating holiday crafts and playing games with a holiday theme.

  1. A Christmas-cookie making party would be fun. Go caroling afterwards and deliver the goodies as good tidings.

  1. If you are in a snowy locale, well go sledding. The classic Frosty the Snowman tale can also come to life with making snowmen, having a decorating contest, sliding down the hills, and hot cocoa and toasted marshmallows. The kids would have many thrills and you could give a homemade “Make Your Own Snowman” kit to the kids as a goody…with buttons for eyes, a corncob pipe, etc.

I also wrote an article about birthdays on the heels of Xmas earlier. It already feels frosty around here to me. No, it is never too early to plan!
