Le Petit Prince
The French aviator, Antoine de Saint-Exupery, was a true genius when he wrote his story of Le Petit Prince. Full of imagination, special details, and a message that is pertinent to both kids and adults, it is a classic book that is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.
What a beautiful theme for a first birthday party! If the book holds special interest for you and your child, here are some party ideas to bring the theme alive:
Send out invitations either in the shape of stars in the universe or as the Asteroid B612 that the Prince lives on in his world. Inside or on the back of the invitation provide the party details.
The colors for the party can match those in the book, light blue and yellow. Buy balloons, streamers, and table ware to mix and match these solid colors.

Alice in Wonderland′s Mad Hatter Tea Party
Alice in Wonderland's delightful Mad Hatter Tea Party may often be a popular theme for a birthday party. If your daughter is interested in a tea party, but has to invite all of the boys in the classroom, then a Mad Hatter theme party may work well for this situation.
Why do I say this? Let's look at some of the fun activities that can be done at the party to begin:
Decorate your party room with lots of live-sized cards, King of Hearts, Queen of Spades, etc. At the party table, have several packs of cards lying around so that the kids can play with them during the party. You can also spread the cards out around the table as an additional decoration. Also, toss all types of hats around the party room.

Fanciful Eloise of the Plaza
Every little girl loves to read Kay Thompson's Eloise series of books. You know, the little girl who lives at The Plaza Hotel in NYC with her Nanny, her little dog, Weenie, and pet turtle, Skipperdee.
All day long she runs around the infamous hotel attending weddings, spying on debutantes, and living it up! She always has so much to do.
If this is a favorite book for your kid, you may want to consider letting her be "Eloise" for a perfect birthday afternoon with her friends. This is especially appropriate if she is turning 6 year olds, as that is the exact age of Miss Eloise!
Here are some ideas to pull the theme together in typical Eloise style:

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
If you saw the revised movie of this classic tale, your kid may very well want to celebrate her birthday at the Factory as well. If so, here are some ideas to re-enact with your kid and the "Golden Ticket" winners!
For the invitation, hand-deliver chocolate bars with a "golden ticket" inside the wrapping.
On the ticket, put all of the party details! Request that they bring along their ticket to gain access to their chocolaty fate!
For decorations, wrap your front door in brown paper with a bright, big ribbon either painted on the paper or use an actual ribbon to the front entrance. Also, make sure to put a sign on the door welcoming the kids to "Chocolate Factory."
Just as in the movie, have the kids gather at the front door wondering when the door will open. You could have a party helper taking pictures and interviewing the lucky kids who found the "Golden Tickets" as they arrive. Exactly at the appointed start time of the party, open the doors in a dramatic fashion.
